ISLAND ESCAPE
Island Escape Fishing Expeditions

Island Escape offers luxury expeditions within New Zealand and Vanuatu. Our passion for adventure and discovery has inspired a series of extraordinary small ship voyages to some of the most remote and fascinating fishing locations in New Zealand and the South Seas.
The ‘Island Passage’ is our beautifully appointed small ship. Weighing in at almost 500 tons, she’s equipped to travel to inaccessible areas while delivering the highest level of passenger comfort. On board you’ll find 10 spacious en-suite cabins, a large dining room and saloon lounge, a library and generous outdoor living spaces. In the galley, our chef works with the freshest local ingredients and delicacies to create memorable meals that reflect the day’s adventures. ‘Island Passage’ carries purpose-built landing craft, three large tenders, sea kayaks, a five-seat helicopter and a comprehensive range of fishing equipment. During each journey, our eight-person crew, including specialist fishing guides, is on hand to share their knowledge of the ocean and local conditions.

NOMAD SPORTFISHING
NOMAD SPORTFISHING

Nomad Sportfishing operates pioneering and unique sportfishing, gamefishing and flyfishing mothership fishing charters along the eastern Queensland Coast of Australia. Our aim is to provide you with the best bluewater fishing adventure holidays available in Australia, through the use of the latest technology in boats, tackle, techniques and equipment, combined with stunning locations, outstanding service and great value for money. The locations we visit and services we offer are unique within Australia. Due to our boats and equipment, we are the only company able to offer access to most of the areas we visit

Started during August 2005, we fished the ultimate fishing adventures in some of the most remote coral atolls in the world. We are the first and only company to ever offer this type of package to fish these locations. Most of the reef systems are located 200-300 nautical miles offshore from Australia's mainland.
We offer a range of trip options each year and the details about these trip styles are listed for you below.

Room to Move by Warren Steptoe

The Coral Sea Ultimate Adventures are the premier fishing experience offered by Nomad Sportfishing. Ultimate Adventures trips allow you to access some of the most remote, pristine and rarely fished coral atolls on earth.

Coral Sea Ultimate Adventures
This is our premiun charter option, offering the ultimate diversity of fishing styles and species, as well as superior comfort onboard our 51ft gameboat, 2 x 25ft centre consoles and 1 x 18ft centre console. This option is best if you want to combine light tackle lurecasting, GT popping or general lagoon sportfishing with jigging for dogtooth tuna, trolling for wahoo, yellowfin tuna, sailfish or some heavy tackle marlin fishing. We cater for 12 anglers on these trips.

Lagoon Casting by Warren Steptoe

Coral Sea Lagoon Explorer
Lagoon Explorers focus on general sportfishing, lurecasting and GT popper fishing for species such as GTs, coral trout, spanish mackerel, longtail tuna and a whole range of other sportfish. The locations that we visit on these trips provide more sheltered waters for our 2 x 18ft and 2 x 25ft centre consoles to operate in. We cater for 12 anglers on these trips.

Drive Out GT Special
This is a new trip option, in response to strong demand for an entry level Coral Sea trip. Drive Out GT specials are very similar to the Lagoon Explorer trips, except that you access the reefs by driving out onboard our mothership rather than by floatplane, and we cater for 14 guests.

Coral Sea 2-4 Day Gameboat Trips
These are a shorter trip of 2-4 days duration using our 51ft gameboat, and departing from Mackay, Cairns or Lockhart River. These trips cater to all fishing styles and species, depending on location, and are an excellent option for anglers with limited time available. We cater for 5 anglers onboard the gameboat.

CARPENTARIA SEAFARIS
Seafaris DVD and Brochure

Do remember this picture of Randall and me on the
cover of Fly Fishing In Saltwaters Magazine Jan/Feb 1999? If you don't, no worries. For us however, it was truly the beginning of AAFC and of another wonderful success story whose theme is Carpentaria Seafaris (detailed info) and our good mate Captain/Owner Greg Bethune. Greg snapped that picture and it became the cover for Fly Fishing in Saltwater the same month we published the first US article on mothership fishing Cape York. Back then Greg had the Capricorn Mist. She was an excellent mothership but a far cry from today's "Tropic Paradise". Greg had the Tropic Paradise built specifically for the territory around Cape York and she is the largest and most comfortable vessel from which to fish these waters.
Since that trip back in 1998 we have visited Greg's Carpentaria Seafaris (Seafaris Website) numerous times. Although each trip is memorable, the voyage with Jose Wejebe and The Spanish Fly film crew was a blast. Obviously, the trip was TV worthy as 5 episodes where recorded and subsequently aired in 2003/04/05 on ESPN2. That was the first American film crew to capture the Cape York fishery on film. Hopefully too you have seen the 2006 airing of the latest 5 Australian Spanish Fly shows featuring the Coral Sea - another first!

DVD PREVIEW QUICKTIME or WINDOWS

We have a new DVD and brochure featuring Cape York, the Tropic Paradise and it is produced by our mate Greg Bethune. This DVD has gives you opportunity to view Cape Yorks many species in action and includes Indo Pacific Permits, Golden, Giant and Diamond Trevally, Barramundi, Cobia, Tarpon, Tunas, Giant Herring and many more. Want to get your hands on this? Then give us a call Office 415 785 2899 Cell 415 308 4544 or for more information and to book your trip click to send inquiry email:

ISLAND ESCAPE : Vanuatu Blue Water
Vanuatu Blue Water

Vanuatu Blue Water Fishing 2010

Port Luganville on the island of Espiritu Santo is our Northern Base. From here we have within reasonable proximity an extraordinary range of fishing opportunities with numerous coral reefs, seamounts and deep water trenches that are relatively untouched by game and sport anglers. This northern territory produces excellent results. You spend the days exploring the endless fishing options around the islands that offer the best fishing situation based on current weather conditions. The popper fishing for GTs is simply excellent. However, it’s not just the GTs that make this area very special. The variety of species is also excellent with marlin, spanish mackerel, tuna, coral trout, red bass and many other reef species. There are regular opportunities to fish the shallows of lagoons and shore based rock fishing also prove very successful.

We anchor each night in the shelter of a reef lagoon or in the lee of a protected island. We move around during the week to different reefs and islands depending on the weather conditions that prevail.

Available fishing falls into two main catergories -blue water gamefishing for the likes of marlin, sailfish, tuna, wahoo and mahimahi; sport and fly fishing for GTs, dogtooth tuna, wahoo, rainbow runners, coral trout, barracouda and a variety of smaller inshore reef seamount species.

Fishing will be conducted from four vessels

Island Passage itself – possibly trolling between destinations and jigging/ casting over reefs or when anchored up at night, two sevenmetre Marco centre console/ centre cab tenders and a seven-metre Commando ‘landing craft’. The centre cab has been set up with outriggers for blue water trolling. Quality Shimano tackle and accessories are provided onboard along with our fishing guides. We have 40-foot day game fishers available as an optional addition to the package which increases the range and fishing possibilities. If added, positions are rotated amongst the anglers. We fish with a maximum of 4 anglers and crew on each vessel.

All billfish will be tagged and released, unless the fish is deemed unlikely to survive. We operate a catch and release policy. Fishing is planned for a morning session with a break for lunch and refreshments followed by a further afternoon session. All locations are subject to weather conditions and vessel positioning as we are in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean with seasonal SE trade winds of 20-25 knots. Casting and jigging rods and reels supplied along with poppers, jigs and minnows. Gear is supplied on a replace if lost or damaged basis.

In the comfort of our 500-ton luxury ship you can be sure you will receive professional service. Your ship accommodates a maximum of 12-16 anglers in 10 very spacious and individually designed en-suite cabins that allow guests the space and comfort seldom found on a ship of this size. Our professional chef prepares superb meals while a fine wine cellar plus a wide range of spirits, beer and juices are available.
