Vanuatu Blue Water Fishing 2010

Port Luganville on the island of Espiritu Santo is our Northern Base. From here we have within reasonable proximity an extraordinary range of fishing opportunities with numerous coral reefs, seamounts and deep water trenches that are relatively untouched by game and sport anglers. This northern territory produces excellent results. You spend the days exploring the endless fishing options around the islands that offer the best fishing situation based on current weather conditions. The popper fishing for GTs is simply excellent. However, it’s not just the GTs that make this area very special. The variety of species is also excellent with marlin, spanish mackerel, tuna, coral trout, red bass and many other reef species. There are regular opportunities to fish the shallows of lagoons and shore based rock fishing also prove very successful.

We anchor each night in the shelter of a reef lagoon or in the lee of a protected island. We move around during the week to different reefs and islands depending on the weather conditions that prevail.

Available fishing falls into two main catergories -blue water gamefishing for the likes of marlin, sailfish, tuna, wahoo and mahimahi; sport and fly fishing for GTs, dogtooth tuna, wahoo, rainbow runners, coral trout, barracouda and a variety of smaller inshore reef seamount species.

Fishing will be conducted from four vessels

Island Passage itself – possibly trolling between destinations and jigging/ casting over reefs or when anchored up at night, two sevenmetre Marco centre console/ centre cab tenders and a seven-metre Commando ‘landing craft’. The centre cab has been set up with outriggers for blue water trolling. Quality Shimano tackle and accessories are provided onboard along with our fishing guides. We have 40-foot day game fishers available as an optional addition to the package which increases the range and fishing possibilities. If added, positions are rotated amongst the anglers. We fish with a maximum of 4 anglers and crew on each vessel.

All billfish will be tagged and released, unless the fish is deemed unlikely to survive. We operate a catch and release policy. Fishing is planned for a morning session with a break for lunch and refreshments followed by a further afternoon session. All locations are subject to weather conditions and vessel positioning as we are in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean with seasonal SE trade winds of 20-25 knots. Casting and jigging rods and reels supplied along with poppers, jigs and minnows. Gear is supplied on a replace if lost or damaged basis.

In the comfort of our 500-ton luxury ship you can be sure you will receive professional service. Your ship accommodates a maximum of 12-16 anglers in 10 very spacious and individually designed en-suite cabins that allow guests the space and comfort seldom found on a ship of this size. Our professional chef prepares superb meals while a fine wine cellar plus a wide range of spirits, beer and juices are available.
